Students rave about us. See what they have to say.
When you decide how to prepare for the LSAT you will be faced with all kinds of options. There are LSAT classes, self-study books and online groups. These are all fine, and they will certainly help you to do better on the LSAT. But then there is David Yi, the LSAT Sensei. David is truly in a class above. His knowledge of the test is profound, and he is always working with LSAC to stay abreast of changes. His ability to teach is unparalleled. After a couple of sessions together he knew what I needed, and tailored every second to helping me improve in those areas. Most importantly, David sets himself apart in client service. Throughout the process of studying for the LSAT, taking the test, and applying to law school, David has been a sounding board and mentor to me. He is always available by phone, and always went the extra mile to ensure my success.
On the day of the test I felt as though I had truly complete knowledge of the LSAT. I never worried that I would be caught off guard. The secret weapon all of David's students have is confidence. We have studied hard with the best tutor in the game, so we know we are going to crush the test. I'm now deciding between top-three law schools, and I owe my success to David. If you intend to become an attorney, this may be the best investment you can make in your future. Go for it and reap the rewards. Edward Ferguson Stanford Law School (Class of 2020) |

"[M]ore personal attention than any of the big testing companies." |
David is fantastic. My score improved 15 points putting me in the 99+ percentile. He is incredibly knowledgeable and his FUN method makes studying just that (fun). David is able to give more personal attention than any of the big testing companies, and he tailors the study to your needs.

"When I told my friends that I was communicating with my instructor via phone and email about specific LSAT questions long after the group study had ended, they were surprised and frustrated that they were being referred to a company’s help line....Dave is patient and understanding. But don't let his warm demeanor fool you - he will push you hard and work you towards your target score. I only have the highest level of respect for him. I highly recommend his expertise."

"If you're looking for an excellent LSAT tutor, look no further than David. When I first approached David to be my LSAT coach, I was sitting on a 167 LSAT score. After working with David, I now have a 177 in my pocket. As a result, many more law school doors have opened to me than before.
I have researched a lot of different LSAT prep companies. I have also taken a few of their courses. While I do believe that they are useful, for those students trying to achieve excellence on the LSAT - it's highly probable that you will need a more personalized experience. David would be your answer. Why do I think David is such a good LSAT teacher? His level of experience. David has taught a buttload of students, so he can assess you very accurately and provide you with what you need to succeed. He does not sugarcoat things. He will tell you if you are not ready. The result is getting the score you need for the school you want to go to. His patience. I do not know many people as patient or as nice as David. He will take the time to explain problems to you and he will ensure that you understand. He's a really pleasant guy to work with. His willingess to go above and beyond for his students. He really will go above and beyond to help you understand where you are going wrong. His deep understanding of the test. He knows this test very very well. He has wisdom in his pocket that you will not hear from any LSAT test prep companies. If you can stump him on a question (good luck), you know that you are ready to dominate the test. Of course, you have to put in the work too. But with David guiding you (and I speak from personal experience), you will get that elite score. I don't think I can say enough good things about David and about my experience working with him." Lin Zhu Northwestern University School of Law (Class of 2015) |
"Dave was a great help in preparing for the LSAT! He clearly had great mastery of the material, yet he also presented it in a manner that was easy to comprehend. He was extremely personable and accessible—by phone, e-mail, or even text—whenever I had a question or concern. My work with Dave allowed me to improve in each section of the test, and more importantly, it gave me the skills to take the exam with confidence. He helped me to see that even the seemingly impossible games section was manageable! I scored well on the LSAT and am now attending a top law school."

"Dave's title as LSAT Sensei is well-deserved! His knowledge of the test shows as he teaches; not only does he simplify difficult concepts so that it becomes easily understandable, but he also provides a way for his students to practice further by creating a variety of new questions as warm-up exercises. Most test prep companies are only able to stick to the released questions, but seeing Dave come up with various game scenarios in matter of minutes really showed me his dexterity with the test. Even after taking one class with him solidified reading comprehension, logical reasoning, and game strategies that I eventually used when taking the real test.
As if that in itself isn't enough, I have never seen an instructor so invested in the success of his students. Dave schedules one-on-one time with each of them outside of classes to clear up any questions they have and to discuss their plans for the application process. His knowledge of law schools and how to market yourself as a desirable applicant goes without saying. You will not be sorry if you decide to trust your test preparation to the LSAT Sensei!" "Studying with LSAT Sensei is a MUST-DO!!! The Elite 180 program was a short three months with flexible scheduling. The quality of instruction is unbelievable. It was not a classroom with thirty other people, where the instructor just feeds techniques and guidelines. I received one-on-one tutoring with a top-notch instructor. He made sure to work with me to make me a LSAT-taking machine. We went through all the previous LSAT until I could reach top marks. By exam time, I breezed through it and expected a high score. I had no doubt at all - I knew I'd score high. AND I DID! I scored a 171! LSAT Sensei is the way to go."

"If you are serious about getting into the law school of your dreams (or just any law school), Dave is your man. My score went up 7 points after working with him for just a few months. I could not be happier with my results after working with Dave.
I took a Testmasters class and found their methods to be insufficient. Taking a one sized fits all approach to teach a test as complicated as the LSAT just does not make sense. Dave recognizes this and offers a much more intense and comprehensive plan for success. I am a smart guy, but Testmasters and self study were just not enough for me to feel comfortable with the material and to get an elite score. If you want to go to a top law school you need a top score. I needed a professional...enter Dave. He knows his LSAT stuff in and out (obviously), but provides a personalized attack plan for you. Unlike other LSAT courses or instructors that offer a very generic approach, Dave will find and analyze your strengths and weaknesses and approach them accordingly. Dave's positive-can-do attitude and endless energy are incredibly helpful and kept me from losing my mind during the grueling process of studying. He actually made the LSAT fun by challenging you and helping you challenge yourself. Dave's methods are at times un-orthodox (he made me STOP studying at one point), but incredibly effective. Additionally, Dave cares deeply about his students and treats you as if you were his only client. Dave's experience with law school and with the admissions cycle is also invaluable. You are essentially hiring an insider to the admissions game. After doing some visits to potential law schools, I was shocked by how little prospective students knew about the admissions process. Dave has me so well informed I virtually felt like an expert there! To sum it up, if you are serious about the LSAT and law school, then look no further than LSAT [Sensei]." If you want to rock the LSAT and get into a top 10-15 law school, you have to study with Dave! I first heard about LSAT Sensei from a friend who had studied with him a couple years ago. Dave helped my friend get an elite 170+ score and he had nothing but good things to say about him. At the time I was seriously considering to just sign up with Kaplan, but after getting in touch with Dave and meeting with him for a free lesson preview, I was totally sold!
I signed up with LSAT Sensei to get private tutoring and work directly with David. It's only slightly more expensive than the general classes at Kaplan, and you get WAY more for your money. You get all the personal attention, lesson plans tailored to your strengths/weaknesses, and of course, a world-class and passionate tutor who actually cares that you do well on the test. Dave knows the LSAT test inside and out, as he's scored perfect 180s multiple times. He shares all his tips and strategies and breaks everything down into simpler, easier to understand concepts. Not only that, he's funny! I found that Dave's strategies helped me the most with overall speed on the test. I used to have trouble finishing the individual sections without having to blindly guess, but after studying with him I've always been able to accurately answer all the questions with time leftover to spare. He also helped me immensely with the games section, which has since become the easiest section on the test for me. Dave knows the test so well, and he has an approachable, easy to understand way of teaching it. Even after I got my coveted 170+ score, Dave helped me as a consultant in the application process. He's really there with you the whole way through, and he sincerely wants to see all his students succeed on the test and get into the law schools of their dreams. Try out LSAT Sensei...you will not be disappointed!!!!! Alfred Tam Northwestern University School of Law (Class of 2014) |

Here is why LSAT Sensei is awesome:
1. My score went up 12 points, and I scored in the 99th percentile after taking their class. 2. They push you to really learn, not just to memorize test-taking techniques. This works a lot better, in my opinion, because it really sinks in. They emphasize diagramming conditional statements, which is not only useful for the LSAT, but also for life in general. (You can win arguments, understand CFTC regulations, and criticize the presidential debate.) 3. You learn useful, simple ways of solving logic games. The methods became ingrained in my mind, and despite the fact that logic games was my worst section coming in, I breezed through the games questions on the LSAT. 4. Everyone at LSAT Sensei is super nice and helpful, and will answer any number of questions at any time of day. David took the time to have coffee with me and answer all my questions about law school and whether or not it was worth going. 5. Because it's a smaller company, they know you individually and your study plan is very personalized. David will stop at nothing to make sure you get a good LSAT score. (He called my boyfriend to brief him on what I was supposed to be doing to study and told him to report back if I stopped.) You want him on your side in the LSAT battle. LSAT Sensei did such a good job of teaching me the LSAT that even though I didn't get any sleep for the two nights before the test AND I was sick, I still scored in the 99th percentile. Cora Tench |
David is really passionate about helping his students. I reached out to him after I exhausted all other resources. I had taken blueprint's prep course and worked with one of their private tutors...I want to add that I did all the homework and even read the LSAT bibles. While all these things together were helpful, I needed an extra boost and David was able to help me out. He introduced me to innovative techniques that I had never heard of, and believe me, I had heard it all. Working with David helped me pinpoint exactly what and where my weaknesses were and in turn that allowed me to study more effectively. The personalized approach really makes me wish I had started with David from the beginning because I would have saved myself a lot of time! He also really took the time to understand me as a prospective law school candidate and gave me advice on how to play my cards right. If you're serious about doing well on the LSAT I think you should definitely go with LSAT sensei!

If you're serious about maximizing your LSAT score and attending the law school of your dreams, look no further than LSAT Sensei! David not only has a masterful grasp of the question types and strategies but he is also able to instruct students in a manner that is both easy to understand and engaging. In addition, David truly cares about your progress and offers individualized strategies to maximize your score. In addition to the in-person classes I attended for three months, he frequently offered additional online courses, connected with me via phone and email to discuss my progress, and helped me develop a customized schedule. All of this at an extremely affordable price! If you want top-notch instruction at a low price, LSAT Sensei is the way to go!
My LSAT score ultimately increased by 10 points. My improvement in the Logic Games section was absolutely stunning! I went from only being able to complete few questions during my first practice test to comfortably attacking even the most difficult game types. David also helped guide me through the law school application process. His knowledge of the application process and how to successfully market yourself to law schools is remarkable! David's instruction while I was studying for the LSAT and his guidance during the law school application process helped me maximize my potential as a law school applicant. I ended up scoring exactly what I wanted on the October LSAT to make me competitive in the top 10-15 law schools. I know it would have taken a much longer time to get my score had it not been for LSAT Sensei. I took the full length course this past spring and I really enjoyed the class. David's energy always made class fun and enjoyable and his mastery of the LSAT made it so much easier for me to learn from my mistakes. David has many different types of drills to help increase your speed on the reading comprehension and logical reasoning sections - this was especially helpful for me because I was having a hard time completing the reading comprehensive section on time. He also has his own strategies for solving some of the logical games - strategies that are much easier than what the other LSAT Prep companies teach. Taking his class also gives you access to a ton of LSAT preparation material - old LSATs, drills, packets of similar questions, etc. The material is completely comprehensive and very useful when you need help in one particular section or on one particular type of question. Whenever I needed his help, either because I was having trouble finishing a section on time or I wasn't sure why my answer to a certain question was wrong, he always took the time to help me. He invests himself in all of his students and really tries his best to help all of his students meet their goals. When I went back home for summer he even took the time to make me a personalized study schedule, something he was not obligated to do because I was no longer taking any of his classes. He also helped me with my personal statement this past fall. I truly believe that David genuinely cares for all of his students and will do anything he can to make sure they succeed. Overall, I am very happy with my LSAT Sensei experience and highly recommend LSAT Sensei to anyone who wants to increase their score on the LSAT.

LSAT Sensei is amazing because:
-David knows the test backwards and forwards, he's an amazing teacher who loves to teach. -He's 100% devoted to his students, making himself available for phone calls, texts, and emails at all hours of the day. -He goes above and beyond by helping students with their essays and applications, even AFTER you're done taking his class. I first discovered LSAT Sensei last fall when I knew I would be taking the June 2013 test. I of course researched the larger, more popular companies, but because of their size, I could never be sure that MY experience would be as good as those of the students advertised. After a great deal of searching, and several phone calls and emails with LSAT prep companies around the country, I decided to work with David at LSAT Sensei. Throughout the entire process of discovering and working with David, I've been amazed by his genuine care for his students and their success, his sense of humor, and his endless energy, passion, and patience. He goes above and beyond by helping students with their applications and essay because he's so invested in their success, making the daunting law school application process as manageable and enjoyable as possible. This completely blew away my friend (who graduated from a Top 3 law school)--he couldn't believe the level of personal attention that David gave to his students. You're not just taking a class, you're forging a relationship with a partner throughout the entire law school application process. This is a priceless feature of LSAT Sensei. I'm not a great standardized test taker, and I knew that conquering the LSAT was going to take significant studying on my part if I was going to meet my goal of scoring above 170. After studying with David for three months in a group class and taking a couple private lessons as the test approached, my practice test scores shot up 17 points, well above my goal. It wasn't easy, and I devoted many hours of self study to augment the classroom instruction (which is truly necessary for anyone hoping to crack 170, regardless of the company). I firmly believe that for serious applicants that want to attend top law schools, David combines the efficiency to help you reach your target score fast, the experience and calm to help you deal with testing anxiety, and the continuing advice and guidance to make your application as strong as possible, all while being a fun, entertaining guy to work with. Looking back at my journey of studying the LSAT, I can't think of any other person or company I would have rather entrusted with my goals of attending a top law school. If you're able to work with LSAT Sensei, do it already. And then go study. Bram Schumer Columbia Law School (Class of 2017) |

Working with Dave was different than any experience I had with other commercial prep companies. While those companies boast centers across the country and teams of instructors, Dave brings LSAT studying back to the fundamentals. He used a simple yet effective approach that is centered around the idea that succeeding on the LSAT requires thinking like an LSAT testmaker.
The difference between LSAT Sensei and other national prep companies is similar to the difference between a 600-person lecture and 15-person discussion group. While the prep companies are effective at disseminating large amounts of information to many clients, Dave adjusts how sessions are organized according to your strengths. Dave was incredibly helpful in pointing out both the broader trends and subtle nuances of the LSAT. Most prep companies will provide you with a packet of answers and explanations that you can spend countless hours sifting through. By contrast, Dave puts you in control by having you act as an instructor, deconstructing and analyzing each question. While preparing for the test certainly required a substantial personal investment, Dave helped me formulate a structured schedule that kept me focused and that was also tailored to my non-LSAT schedule. His availability and willingness to unpack some of the most important patterns of the LSAT make testprep more than just another class. Instead, it becomes a forum for you to engage actively with the material and get into habits that will boost your score on test day. Dema Klebaner Yale Law School (Class of 2016) |
